Joint Initiative Targets Anaemia Control in Five Aspirational Districts

The Ministry of Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) and the Ministry of Women and Child Development signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, to address the critical issue of anaemia in adolescent girls. This joint public health initiative is named “Anaemia Control among adolescent girls using Ayurveda interventions in the five districts under Mission Utkarsh.”

Focus on Five Aspirational Districts:

The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Minister of Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, and Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt. Smriti Irani. In the first phase, the program will focus on improving the anaemic status of adolescent girls (aged 14-18) in five aspirational districts across five states:

 • Assam – Dhubri
 • Chhattisgarh – Bastar
 • Jharkhand – Paschimi Singhbhum
 • Maharashtra – Gadchiroli
 • Rajasthan – Dhaulpur

Reaching 95,000 Girls:

This project aims to improve the nutritional status of approximately 95,000 adolescent girls in these high-burden anaemia districts, where the average prevalence is around 69.5%. The initiative will cover roughly 10,000 Anganwadi Centres in these five districts.

Collaboration for a Healthy Future:

Speaking at the event, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal emphasized the collaborative effort between the ministries to achieve an “Anaemia Mukt Bharat” (Anaemia Free India). He highlighted the project’s alignment with Mission Utkarsh, aiming to bring these aspirational districts up to the national average on key performance indicators.

Ayush: A Cost-Effective Solution:

Smt. Smriti Irani emphasized the potential of Ayush systems, backed by evidence-based research, to offer a cost-effective solution for tackling anaemia. She highlighted the project’s global significance due to its large-scale implementation, time-bound outcomes, and potential for contributing to global health knowledge.

Addressing Malnutrition:

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, highlighted the detrimental effects of anaemia on adolescent girls’ physical and mental well-being and future motherhood. He emphasized the role of traditional medicine systems in primary healthcare settings.

Synergy with Existing Programs:

Shri Indewar Pandey, Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, highlighted their existing efforts to address malnutrition in children, adolescent girls, and pregnant women through programs like “Saksham Anganwadi” and “Poshan.” He emphasized the importance of focusing on girls in this age group to ensure future generations of healthy mothers and children. He also mentioned their successful collaboration with Ayush on over 2.7 crore Ayush-based activities during “Poshan Maah” and “Poshan Pakhwada.”

Leveraging Expertise:

The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) brings valuable experience to this initiative. They have a proven track record in conducting clinical trials and implementing successful public health programs related to anaemia control and antenatal care using Ayurvedic interventions.

Prominent Attendees:

The event was also attended by Prof. Ravi Narayan Acharya, Director General of CCRAS, Pushpa Chaudhary (Team Lead, Reproductive, Maternal, Child and Adolescent health, WHO), Dr. Rajeev Bahl (DG, ICMR), and other dignitaries.

This joint initiative by the Ministry of Ayush and the Ministry of Women and Child Development represents a significant step forward in addressing the challenge of anaemia in adolescent girls and promoting their overall health and well-being.

Seeman Chief Coordinator Naam Tamilar Katchi in Twitter:

The decision of the Tamil Nadu government to acquire land for a new airport in Parandur is highly condemnable. The forceful eviction of farmers and residents from their land is a violation of their fundamental rights.

The people of Parandur have been peacefully protesting against the land acquisition for over a year and a half. They have been expressing their concerns about the loss of their fertile land, water bodies, and homes. However, the DMK government has shown no regard for their concerns and has instead resorted to repressive measures.

The arrest of protesters, including women, elders, and farmers, is a gross violation of human rights. It is an attempt to silence dissent and suppress the legitimate concerns of the people.

The DMK, which had promised to protect the rights of farmers and marginalized communities, has now turned its back on them. This is a betrayal of the trust that the people had placed in the party.

The people of Parandur are determined to continue their fight for their land and their rights. They will not be cowed down by the government’s repressive measures.

We, the Naam Tamilar Katchi, strongly condemn the arrest of Parandur protesters and demand their immediate release. We also urge the Tamil Nadu government to immediately withdraw its plans to acquire land for the new airport.

In a democratic country, people have the right to protest peacefully against government policies. The DMK government should respect this right and engage in dialogue with the people of Parandur to find a solution that is acceptable to all stakeholders.

The people of Parandur have shown great courage and determination in their fight against land acquisition. Their struggle is an inspiration to all those who are fighting for their rights and against injustice.

We stand in solidarity with the people of Parandur and pledge our support to their struggle.

A team of international researchers, including Professor Sadiq Rangwala from the Raman Research Institute (RRI) in India, has achieved a remarkable feat in the realm of physics: successfully laser cooling Positronium. This breakthrough marks a significant advancement in our understanding of matter and antimatter.

What is Positronium and Why is it Important?

Positronium, a short-lived atom formed by an electron and its antiparticle, the positron, holds unique properties due to its purely leptonic nature. Unlike regular atoms with both electrons and protons, Positronium offers scientists a simpler system to study bound-state quantum electrodynamics (QED), the theory governing the interaction of light and charged particles.

The AEgIS Collaboration and Professor Rangwala’s Role:

The international AEgIS collaboration, comprising 19 European groups and one Indian group led by Professor Rangwala, conducted this groundbreaking research. Their findings, published in Physical Review Letters, detail the successful cooling of Positronium atoms using a laser cooling process.

Professor Rangwala’s contribution to this achievement is noteworthy. He played a pivotal role in leading the Indian team’s efforts and significantly contributed to various aspects of the experiment, including designing crucial diagnostic tools for laser alignment within the complex environment of an accelerator beam hall.

Significance of this Discovery:

This breakthrough opens exciting avenues for further research. It paves the way for creating exotic systems like Bose-Einstein condensates of Positronium, furthering our understanding of quantum mechanics. Additionally, it lays the groundwork for the formation of antihydrogen within the AEgIS experiment, aiming to test the equivalence principle, a fundamental principle stating that gravity affects all objects equally.

A Testament to Indian Scientific Excellence:

Professor Rangwala’s involvement and the crucial role played by RRI in this international collaboration showcase India’s growing prominence in the field of scientific research. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and expertise of Indian scientists contributing to advancements on the global stage.

Looking Ahead:

This groundbreaking research holds immense potential for refining our understanding of the physical world, including the nature of antimatter and the fundamental forces governing the universe. Professor Rangwala’s contribution and the involvement of RRI are commendable, and the future of Indian scientific exploration appears bright.

In light of today’s rapidly changing and often turbulent world, the words of António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, offer a powerful message of hope and direction:

“Our world is changing at warp speed. The multiplication of conflicts is causing unprecedented suffering. But human rights are a constant. They bring coherence to our search for solutions. And they are fundamental to our hopes for a world at peace.” [@antonioguterres]

As conflicts escalate and suffering intensifies, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. However, Guterres reminds us that human rights stand as an unwavering compass, guiding us towards solutions. They provide a framework for understanding and addressing global challenges, ensuring everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

By upholding human rights, we can:

 • Promote peace and understanding by fostering dialogue and resolving conflicts peacefully.
 • Address the root causes of suffering such as poverty, inequality, and discrimination.
 • Build a more just and equitable world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

While the world may be changing rapidly, our commitment to human rights must remain constant. It is the foundation for a peaceful and prosperous future for all.

Let us share Guterres’ message and actively work to uphold human rights in all aspects of our lives, both locally and globally. Together, we can build a better world for all.

The post Anand Mahindra’s Sweet Struggle: Can We Indulge Without the Guilt? appeared first on PM Kishan.

]]>
Industrialist Anand Mahindra’s recent tweet about his love for Gajar ka Halwa, despite his efforts to avoid sugar, has sparked a relatable conversation. Many of us struggle with dietary restrictions, especially when faced with tempting treats.

Mr. Mahindra’s tweet reads:

“I took a decision some time ago to give up on sugar. (Despite my sweet tooth) It’s clearly a dangerous part of our diet. But when a dish of Gajar ka Halwa is placed in front of me, my resolve melts. I confess I have no strength to resist. So I’m grateful for this article I discovered that reduces my sense of guilt… Halwa Ki Jai Ho! #SundayMorning”

This sentiment resonates with many who enjoy occasional indulgences while striving for a healthier lifestyle. It raises interesting questions:

 • Can we truly enjoy treats without guilt?
 • Are there ways to indulge mindfully and minimize the negative impacts?
 • How can we find balance in our diets without feeling deprived?

Finding Balance:

While completely eliminating sugar might be ideal for health reasons, it’s not always realistic or enjoyable. Here are some approaches to consider:

 • Mindful indulgence: Savor small portions of your favorite treats, focusing on the taste and experience rather than mindlessly consuming.
 • Explore healthier alternatives: Experiment with recipes that use natural sweeteners or sugar substitutes, like fruits or dates.
 • Focus on overall diet: Ensure your diet is rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to balance occasional indulgences.
 • Don’t punish yourself: Forgive yourself for occasional slip-ups and recommit to your goals without guilt.

Ultimately, the key lies in finding a personalized approach that works for you. Remember, a healthy lifestyle is not about deprivation but about making sustainable choices that promote both enjoyment and well-being.
